Character Usage Report

Analyze the characters in a text.




The Character Usage Report displays the frequency of all characters used within the entire text or just a section. This report can help you identify unwanted characters, find mismatched punctuation pairs, and more.

How to Use:
  1. Open a book.
  2. In the WordCruncher toolbar, click Analyze > Book Reports > Character Usage Report.
  3. Select the types of characters to include in the report.
  4. Select the report bounds: Entire book or Section.
  5. Click Start Report.

The Character Usage Report displays the Unicode values, frequency, and percentage of all characters.

Tip: Double-click on a character to search for it.

Word Types

Choose to identify characters from any of the following word types:

  • Indexed: Any indexed (searchable) word.
  • Nonindexed: Any nonindexed (non-searchable) word.
  • References: Any reference level text (hidden by default).
    To show reference levels in the book, go to Book > Options and select levels.
  • Misc. (such as punctuation): Any subword.
  • Furigana/Pinyin/Ruby text: Any additional text (above the actual text) that provides pronunciation help.
  • Tagword: Metadata such as part of speech, topic, morphological information, and more.
  • White space: Tabs, spaces, and other white space.
